Book Blitz: The Wrong Turn by Sanjay Chopra and Namita Roy Ghose

Greetings Everyone,
Introducing a Historical Romance Thriller. This gives a glimpse into pre-independence struggle with Netaji, INA, British Raj, Freedom fighters,... Do take a look at the book to know more.

THE WRONG TURN:
Love and Betrayal in the Time of Netaji
by
Sanjay Chopra & Namita Roy Ghose

Blurb

1944, Kohima — a small, sleepy town in northeast India. Subhash Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army (INA) along with the Japanese, are on the brink of bringing the Empire to its knees and forcing the British out of India. But, inexplicably, the tables turn. The INA’s advance is thwarted and the victory march to Delhi is halted. Seventy years later, the British admit that the Battle of Kohima was the greatest battle they had ever fought. Even more so than the battles of Waterloo and Dunkirk. Was it then that old Indian curse — betrayal? Someone from within Netaji’s own ranks? Were there forces other than the British, waiting in the shadows closer to home, who stood to gain even more from the INA’s defeat? Or was it just love that irrevocably altered the course of India’s destiny? The Wrong Turn: Love and Betrayal in the Time of Netaji, is a sweeping tale of passion set against the freedom struggle. Debraj, the rakish playboy and scion of a distinguished Calcutta family, and Nishonko, the fiery revolutionary sworn to the cause of the INA, must not only fight their common enemy, but also for the love of Aditi, the rebel with the healing touch. A haunting tale of love, friendship and betrayal of an entire nation, The Wrong Turn veers inexorably towards a poignant redemption.

This was a story waiting to be told. So much about Netaji was smoke and mirrors, partial views foisted on us by the British and other vested interests. Here was a man who was a personal hero, who was part of the lore of my childhood. And here was a chance to set the narrative straight - through the lens of a very human yet universal story of love.

During a school project on ‘The most memorable day of my life’, NAMITA ROY GHOSE wrote about a Russian girl on the day WW2 ended. She got her first rejection slip from the teacher for making things up. Ever since, Namita has established her storytelling skills through her scriptwriting, screenplays poetry, fiction, legendary advertising campaigns, and as a renowned advertising film director. A Creative Director with HTA, she left after 13 years to start her own film company, White Light, one of India’s top ad film outfits. A social activist, she is the founder of Vanashakti, an NGO that works to protect the environment. Namita has done pro bono work on issues like domestic violence, child welfare, sexual harassment and forest preservation. She is an avid traveller, a photographer, foodie and teacher.

Book Review: Half Pants Full Pants by Anand Suspi

Good day People!

I was smiling most of the time I was reading this book. I read it at leisure coz of the nostalgia and memories it brought forth. I have been recommending this book to everyone I meet and talk about Books. Do buy your copy asap.

I am sure everyone will remember or relate to more than one thing from this book. May it be old childhood friends, the games you played, the tricks, the obsessions, the secret plans, school and teachers, vacations, favorite sweets, .... there is something for everyone that will make them go, 'Ah, I did that too :D '

Check out the book details at: Spotlight: Half Pants Full Pants by Anand Suspi

The Publisher of the book is no other than PaperBoat whose aim is to bring memories alive. Anand Suspi and his book does this job perfectly. So we inquired how he managed to get it Published. His response: Guest Post: How did you approach PaperBoat for Publishing the book? to Anand Suspi

Story:
Non-fiction genre I rarely pick up these days. This book is a 220 pages collection of stories from Anand Suspi's childhood to adulthood in the small town of Shimoga. Anand recounts incidents from being a child of 3 years to his first job days. It takes you down memory lane into the days of innocence, carefree play times, everlasting friendships, parents were role models, middle class living.

What I Liked:
Its a lovely book. Clear, perfect English language. Flow smooth. Its divided into 2 parts: Half Pants and Full Pants :)
Each chapter gives us a glimpse of Anand's life in Shimoga as the son of a Railway train guard. The descriptions are vivid. I can visualize his home, backyard, his friends, the Shimoga station, trains, etc.

Many of the incidents are hilarious and makes us wonder what cartoons we were and antics we as kids did. Some incidents make us stop and think. They sort of give the answer to how the incident shaped us as an adult, the principles we made, the habits we ingrained, the concepts or notions we kept in our minds.

I loved the way Anand has written clearly each detail. It doesnt sound pompous or mirch-masala types but is packed with humour all the time. Kudos to your memory for remembering so many incidents.

I have been narrating some of the incidents to my family members while reading the book and got many more shared from each of them.

I am sure RK Narayan must be smiling in heaven reading this book :)

What I wanted more:
I cringed and was shouting No, when the friends stole books from the library. Guess, that was more horrific than swallowing blade pieces to me :p. Anand, you have to do some sort of re compensation to those libraries. Please :)

This book is going to be in my personal library.
Do buy your own copy:

Enjoy the book :)
Bye. Take care.

Greetings Book Lovers,

Read Anand's response how he got around doing this.

Q: You have been self-promoting the Book very well. The close association with PaperBoat Adverts and the book is evident and done efficiently. How did you approach PaperBoat for Publishing the book?

A: After nearly 5 years of approaching publishing houses and finding no takers, a dear friend suggested that I approach Paper Boat. The book is all about nostalgia and childhood memories and so is the brand. That was the logic. I wrote to Neeraj Kakkar, one of the founders. He read two stories and liked them immensely. He instinctively said that he wants more people to read these tales and offered to publish it. He is an incredibly modest and a magnanimous person. So is his entire team. I don’t say this because they’ve published my book. They are genuinely some of the nicest people you find in the corporate world.

Touch wood, you got the perfect Publisher :)  All the best Anand for all your book(s) and ventures.

Spotlight: Half Pants Full Pants by Anand Suspi

Greetings Everyone,
Do you go into flashbacks of your childhood remembering the games you played, your friends, your school, sweets you loved, tricks you played, sneaking around the house when mom was taking a nap, the pretend-plays of teachers/detectives/restaurants/... ?

This book will take you on a nostalgia filled journey as we explore Author Anand's childhood in Shimoga. Do read it. Im sure it will remind you of RK Narayan's Malgudi Days :)

Im slow-reading this book to absorb a peaceful, fun, humorous account of innocence.

HALF PANTS, FULL PANTS
REAL LIFE TALES FROM SHIMOGA
by
Anand Suspi

Blurb

Half Pants Full Pants is a sort of childhood autobiography set in Shimoga of the 70s and 80s. Given the era and milieu that he grew up in, it carries a flavor similar to that of Malgudi Days. All the characters in the book are real and most of them are still in Shimoga, of course now in their mid-40s. Quite a few are from prominent families and are now active and important members of Shimoga. The book vividly captures the real childhood adventures of this generation of people in Shimoga. It’s a glorious reminiscence as well as a tribute to this wonderful town.

R. Balki says

“After Malgudi Days, I could never imagine that someone could create a childhood classic for adults to regain their innocence even for a few hours. Suspi’s tales would have made R K Narayan smile. Oh! That beautiful Kannadiga gene!”
