Greetings People,
I was reading a Thriller after a long time. So it was a pleasant change for me as a reader. This book will keep you turning the pages and curious all time.
Read more about the Story: Spotlight: Shadow in the Mirror by Deepti Menon
Story:
Nita, the beautiful, caring and pregnant wife of Krish falls from the 12th floor to her death. The mystery deepens when Vinny one of the journalist covering the story gets more involved in the story. Nita's father a millionair is heart broken on losing his only daughter and the family he had. Krish is bereft on losing the love of his life and their unborn child. What was the reason behind Nita's suicide? Or was it more than Suicide?
What I liked:
The earthy feel of South India to the writing. You could catch glimpses of South Indian traditions, characteristics of its people, their ways, etc. Loved the language, simple and easy to read. The flow of the story when the book ends, makes perfect sense.
The cover is bewitching, calling you to pick up the book & know who is the Lady and whats her story.
The story is more than a thriller. It weaves many topics in itself. Like mental disorders, self-esteem, child psychology, ambitions, fulfilling dreams, role of role models early in life, etc.
The characters though too many later could be identified as perfect with their plots. Through half of the book I was exasperated with trying to keep a track of the characters, their connections and which one was the culprit. But when the book ended, they all seemed to come out & bow to mark the end of a Play :)
The varying seasons depicted. The story actually brought on those vibes of the seasons with the plot,
from cold winter to sunny summers and cheerful spring.
The poems ingrained were beautifully too.
What I wanted more:
Few pages short novel :) I think some parts of the story could be missed out to make it a tight plot and keep the reader interested and on the edge to get to the end of the mystery.
The story started gathering speed only when 3/4th of the novel was covered. Till then there was no mention of the Shadow in the Mirror.
Overall the great read for the Genre, the language and characterization.
