Good day everyone,
As promised giving you the Book review of Trouble has a New Name by Adite Banerjie, albeit 2weeks late. To get a gist of the book you may want to check the Spotlight: Trouble has a New Name by Adite Banerjie.
This book is hosted by The Book Club and I opted to read and review it.
This is a Romance Novel and a very light read. It is not the usual mushy, boy-girl head over heals in love, hot steamy scenes,.... The characters in this book are very mature, career oriented, professionals juggling personal & profession life. The setting for the book is in Andaman & Nicobar Islands at a Beach resort & centers around a big fat lavish Indian wedding. While reading this the author Adite has actually described the location so beautifully, you actually crave for a beach vacation asap ;)
The story:
Rayna or Ray is a top model who has carved the career with lot of hard work, proving to her family she is not tainting their name by being a model in Big bad Mumbai. She now has a fresh status of being dumped by her boyfriend Sid with just a Text message stating 'Its over'. On top of that she is scheduled to attend her Best Friend Mille's lavish Indian wedding at Andaman & Nicobar Island. She now has to handle the nosy home town crowd, the paparazzi and her reputation of having a fiancee. So the last straw left for her is to ask Neel the gorgeous hotelier, if he would pretend to be her fiancee for a few days? Does that solve the tangled string of troubles Rayna carries with her or does this Trouble has a new Name? Grab the Book to get to know this new trouble ;)
What I liked:
Easy read. Mature characters. No moping around after lost love. Humane side for such drop dead characters. Great description of a lavish Indian wedding. Good research & settings for the locations.
The most important RBIL: Rayna Book of Immutable Laws. These are super spot on & sarcastic at best. My favourite: Trouble always comes neatly wrapped in large-size packs :D
What I want more:
Neel to keep his emotional baggage aside. Accept & understand he cant be responsible for everything that goes wrong in their family life. Also his haunting past story was too streatched, coming back in pieces. In all, Adite good work. Would love to read more of your work. Keep going ! :)
Disclaimer: I received the PDF version of this book from the author for my honest review.
Read the book & let us know your views.

What impressed me most in this book was the eloquent prose throughout the rich narrative—the witty dialogues, the exquisite descriptions of the unfolding scenes before your eyes, and the juicy descriptions of the scorching love scenes without being too graphic. The author clearly excels in the last mentioned!
The plot, however, is mostly predictable the moment the author decides to put Neel (whose physical attributes have been over-described) and Rayna (the dusky beauty whose legs shown on the cover do not match the image presented in the book) together in the same villa. When two beautiful people with broken hearts are thrown together (I find it difficult to believe Rayna couldn’t be accommodated elsewhere), the inevitable has to happen despite their hostile postures. The laughter shown during their intense love scenes was a bit of a spoiler for me. Those are passionate moments where light banter doesn’t fit.
Bringing Sid and Karishma at the same spot didn’t serve much purpose in my humble opinion except introducing an unwanted twist in the tale. Having done so, I would’ve liked Rayna to completely ignore Sid instead of confronting him. She would’ve emerged as a much stronger character that she is. Some of the back stories could’ve been given less space to move the story faster.
Neel’s distress at his sister’s condition was understandable, but his swift departure, without a proper explanation, was not. After such a sizzling romance his sudden ‘goodbye-act’ didn’t quite fit his character. Likewise, Rayna’s cool response also didn’t sound real…as if getting laid was just a minor diversion.
How a story goes is entirely an author’s prerogative, even though a reader might entertain some doubts about the situations that unfold. This story, like any other work of fiction, does have its share of doubts. Having said that I find it difficult to believe that this wonderfully written book doesn’t find a place in the Best-Seller list where so much crap does!
To say the least, this is one of the best from Indian authors I’ve read in recent times. I read it twice for the sheer beauty of her unique voice and the delightful prose. I wish her the best.
Would love your remarks on other reviews too. Thank you.
