Book Review: The Clockmaker by Paromita Goswami

Greetings People !
I have read a Paranormal book after ages. Wow, it actually made me sit up and wait to see what happened next. The Clockmaker by Paromita Goswami is Book 1 of The Jungle series. If Book 1 was so interesting as well as spine tingling, I am more than eager to read the next books in the series.

Know about Book 1 at: Spotlight: The Clockmaker (Jungle Series Book1) by Paromita Goswami

Story:
Ashish Gupta is a clockmaker with a long lineage. He has mastered the art from his father. His father learnt it from his father and so on. The family has a good reputation and holds this family profession in the highest regard. The family name and profession is just helping Ashish make ends meet. His wife Lata the only daughter from a wealthy family takes help from her father for her financial needs. Their son Vicky, a speed fanatic is spoilt by his grandparents. Lata has an arch enemy in Rashmi who used to be her best friend and now both try to compete by showing off their wealth. Vicky is least interested in taking up the family profession of Clock making and has a crush on Kavya  his classmate.
Ashish on the other hand is tormented by nightmares. Some days he cant understand what is reality and when he is hallucinating. The black hooded man in his nightmares keeps asking for the time piece his father gave him. Ashish is frustrated completely with his life and destiny.
He discovers the power of the timepiece and when disaster strikes he use the time piece to change the Time.
But can he succeed in changing his destiny? Can anyone Cheat Time?

I was very much intrigued by this premise. Are you? Then buy the book :

What I liked:

The sheer ease with which one is transported from a small shop in East Delhi to the dark chilly forest in Ashish's nightmares.
Loved the time travels from the lavish living Ashish manipulated into his destiny to how destiny makes you a cripple in the literal sense.

The entire story shows how Destiny and Time is already planned out for each of us. We are mere puppets. Also Karma comes back every time. No excuses.

This story has many facets and I loved how Author Paromita has delved into each of them.

There are stories and incidents within one another. I loved how each layer unraveled.
After a point, you stop trying to guess what will happen next coz its totally different.

I was expecting to get nightmares and shiver while reading the book as is the case with Paranormal books I have read earlier. I had planned to rush through it.

This one only made me look forward to read it when I got a few minutes of free time.

It was actually interesting to read this story. Albeit with a spine tingling suspense around like a heavy fog throughout the story.

The characters were perfect in each time space and portrayed real human emotions. Few characters and a tight script. The language was simple and clean. The flow of story consistent.

Some parts were super gory and scary. I liked how the grandfathers and fathers revealed the secret and tried to help Ashish through the nightmares.

I am now thankful for having a good, normal life and ease of getting sleep every night. My heart just went out to all those people who suffer from insomnia and releated mental ailments.

What I wanted more:
When the story ended, I thought I will know the answers but more questions are circling my head now.
The second shadow was a surprise. Also how Vicky met his destiny in both stories was interesting. I shuddered at each time :(

Author Paromita, I am going to have a quizzical expression when I meet you next. :D Too many questions. But super interested to know the next book(s) in the series.
